Know anything about fondant?!

Question: I'm using fondant to make leaves to put on a cake. What kind of paint could I use to color the leaves? Is powder paint good to use for the whole project or just as a highlighter?

I bake cakes for many occassions including weddings and birthday parties and believe it or not you can either use paste food coloring to dye your fondant of use colored chalk. Most chalk is non toxic and comes in a variety of colors.(check package labels to be sure) Do not use paste colors on fondant unless you dilute it first. It usually makes the fondant sticky and takes forever to dry. I learned this one the hard way. To use the chalk just use a stiff artist brush slightly wet rubbed on the chalk and paint away as if you were painting a picture this makes beautiful flowers.

Good Luck

I say use food coloring. it will mix well with the fondant.

Guess it depends on if you have already tinted your Fondant with any other color. I do not like powder paint.. it seems to change color the longer it sits and it changes with the humidity of the air. I would tint then highlight..

I always use a paste food coloring when using fondant - it holds its color well and does not water the fondant down like liquid food coloring.

The same food coloring you use for your frosting you can use for fondant. Put in a few drops and knead it in. Powdered paint work best for highlighting.
