My family and everyone I've known who has ever prepared or eaten an artichoke and also the way they are served in Italian restaurants in the US (at least where I live in the North East) stuffs the artichoke with seasoned breadcrumb stuffing (sometimes chopped meat is added to the stuffing) and then boils it until it is tender.

I had an aunt who would batter and pan fry canned artichoke hearts. They were yummy. I often putted canned (and occasionally fresh) artichoke hearts in vegetable sautees that I have with pasta or chicken. I sometimes use marinated artichoke hearts as substitutes for sauerkraut when I'm making a reuben-type sandwhich (usually with turkey or tempeh).

I boild them from fresh and then dip them in melted butter - oh so yummy!

Steam and dip in melted butter.

Chew a lot and swallow very carefully. ;P

Dip leaf tips in melted butter w/ a squeeze of lemon in it. Mmmm! Then cut up the heart and toss it w/ remaining butter/lemon and eat w/ a fork!

thanks... now you've flung a craving on me!
;-)

Leaf by leaf until I reach the center
I have used butter mayo and ranch
remove the choke fuzz and continue with the tender stem.
PS they are over $2.00 each here..
