Why did my merigue pie crust crack on the bottom?!

Question: Has this happened to anyone?

Answers: Has this happened to anyone?

If you are asking about the pastry crust on the bottom of the pie, it could be that you stretched it out too far. To prevent this gently lay the pastry dough into the pan, finish the edge as you like, then prick the bottom with a fork before you bake fill or bake it.

If you are asking about a meringue, itself, be sure to not under beat it, heap the meringue onto warm pie filling and be sure to carefully seal it to the edge of the pie crust. This should prevent shrinking or "weeping" (sometimes it gets a little watery).

Sometimes meringue will shrink as it cools. This will cause it to crack. Make sure you put plenty of the mixture on the pie before browning it.
