Making a yellow cake mix into chocolate cake mix?!

Question: I have a yellow cake mix and want a chocolate cake.. I have cocoa powder and chocolate chips... should I just add some cocoa powder to the mix to make it chocolate?
Or melt chocolate chips and add it to the batter?
Any suggestions and does this even work? I would think so... :)

CHOCOLATE CAKE:
Add 1/4 cup cocoa powder to dry cake ingredient
mixture. Then prepare

I think I'd go with the cocoa. Melted chocolate is gonna un-melt when you dump it in the bowl, it's gonna get really gooey cooking and re-chocolate when it cools. Just add enough cocoa till you get the right flavor then cook it.

sure i have done that many times

Yes,To make a chocolate cake, sift together 4 to 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa with a white or yellow cake mix. Then bake as suggested.

Stick to the cocoa and then add a dash more sugar for flavor. Prepare the cake as directed.

yummy! I would go with the cocoa powder.
