Other uses for Farina (Cream of Wheat) other then the regular preparation for breakfast?!
Answers: There has to be other uses! :)
Yes!
I don't care for the texture as a breakfast cereal, but I do like this:
Farina Dumplings
3 c. milk
1 c. Farina
2 eggs, beaten
2 Tb. butter
1 tsp. salt
Dash Pepper
1 c. Jack cheese
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese
In a 2-quart saucepan, heat milk to scalding. Reduce heat, and sprinkle farina slowly into hot milk, stirring constantly until very thick and heavy, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
Stir in eggs, half the butter (1 Tb.), salt and pepper, and beat until smooth.
When cool enough to hold together, scoop out individual pieces with a soup spoon or medium-small ice cream scoop into a greased 13x9x2 inch pan (you may need to refrigerate it for awhile). Use the remaining Tablespoon of butter to coat your hands, and pat down the pieces gently so there are small gaps between them. Sprinkle first with Jack cheese, then with Parmesan. Bake about 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
I have started to experiment with the whole-grain version of farina, which is basically just very finely-ground bulgur. I like this recipe because it's kind of like a very soft pizza, and I can add stuff to it, like dill weed, or Korean red pepper, and even use toppings sometimes.
maybe its just for breakfast
It works as well as grits to kill fire ants...just sprinkle it uncooked on the mound...they eat it, and die...true story!!
