Re-rolling puff pastry?!
was wondering what would happen if the puff pastry was re-rolled perhaps one more time. would it not rise? would it go hard?
Answers: why is it that you can't re-roll puff pastry. i have only used it a couple of times in the past, but after cutting shapes out, there's loads left and i always feel slightly wasteful about throwing it away (the whole starving people in other countries thing. not that they'd want my uncooked puff pastry... but still...)

You could reuse the scraps as long as you pile them up into a tower and then roll them out again. This is because puff and rough puff pastry are made by folding and rolling thus trapping in the air you need to make it rise high. The left overs will be harder but you could sprinkle the rolled out piece of pastry with c sugar and roll it up like a sausage roll, cut into rounds and cook on a well greased trayfor a lovely teatime treat. A sprinke of cinnamon goes well too. Bon appetite!
you can re-roll it just its alittle harder to roll a second time i never roll it out in one go i use a little, cut out what i need then the waste i re-use with alittle of the un-rolled makes it easier to roll for a second time
if you don`t put a lot of pressure on when you roll it,you can by easing the dough out by hand then put 2 or more pieces on top of each other gently roll it and reuse.hope this helps
Generally, I just use 1/2 of the amount that comes in the package, (I wrap stuffed chicken breasts in it) then refreeze the other half...... BUT, I have in the past kept the unused parts, not discarded them, refroze them, added them to this half not used and it was like the original. I never thru them out.
I throw nothing out, always use it somehow. Even if I egg wash it and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and bake it or egg wash and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. GREAT. Just use it!
Hope this helps.
It won't rise as well & it may not rise evenly. One thing to do is to brush the scraps with a little dilute egg wash, or a little milk, and then sprinkle them with sugar and cinnamon before baking them. You'll end up with nice little treats.
