Really stuck-on popcorn ball recipe..?!
PS, popcorn balls are not as fun as they say.
Answers: Family has come in for the weekend and it would be fun to have the kids help me make popcorn balls. The first batch went terrible because the recipe I found on the internet had me really mixed up and confused, so without thinking and because it was so hot, I left that popcorn ball mixture and the popcorn itself in a bowl until I was completely done with the second batch. It's been a while, and the mixture is completely and throroughly stuck onto the bowl. I've scraped all I can, but i've had no luck with the bottom of the bowl. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this gunk.. or should I just toss the bowl in the trash? Thanks for all the help.

You don't need to throw out your bowl. It just takes some hot water to melt the sugar and the jello. I'd suggest putting on a pot of hot water to boil and pouring it into the bowl. If you still have lots of popcorn stuck to the bowl, pour the hot water into the bowl, let it sit for a minute, use a wooden spoon or something to loosen the popcorn, and then drain it through a strainer to catch the yuck. Repeat as needed until you're down to just the sticky stuff. Then boil water one more time, add dish soap liberally to the bowl, add hot water and let it sit until it's okay to handle. Then it should clean up like normal.
All you have stuck on your bowl is sugar so it needs to be dissolved.
Sorry your popcorn balls didn't turn out. I've made them for about 40 years and just recently started seeing the recipes adding the jello for coloring. I'll stick with my tried and true recipe from Better Homes & Gardens!
Why not just make caramel corn and leave it at that? Kids w/ buttered hands fooling w/ food I might eat.... nah... just doesn't make the taste buds tingle. You make it the same way, just spread out on a cookie sheet or wax paper to dry. Forget ball-forming.
Try soaking the bowl in hot water or nuke it for a minute or so to loosen the stuff left on the bottom.
As far as popcorn balls, they are fun if you mix them while the liquid "goo" is still hot enough to mix with the popcorn. Don't leave the bowl alone until they are formed into balls and ready to set.
As with every new recipe, it is a good idea to read it through to make sure you understand each step before you begin. Good luck with your next batch, they are worth the effort.
P.S. If you still have no joy, try rice krispie treats.
If you use Dawn Foam and very hot water. Let is sit for awhile and it will come clean... The foam has yet to fail me.. good luck
