What's a dish that you just have to make for a holiday meal?!
Answers: For Thanksgiving I have to have banana bread. My husband likes a 'dip' for tortilla chips called Kelaguin (sp?). You take shredded chicken, then mix it with scallions, crushed red pepper, lemon juice and shredded coconut. It's a recipe from his family's island in the Pacific. I don't like it, but he loves it and has to have it for every holiday. So what are your favorite things to make?
Carrot Souffle'.
It is a must and expected by my husband and my son, not only for Thanksgiving, but for Christmas as well as Easter! I use the one from the 1996 Southern Living Cook Book.
If you are interested in the recipe I will get it for you or you can use ask.com and type in Carrot Souffle'. There are different variations of it. I think Southern Living had the best one! You will never know you are eating carrots and I use Splenda instead of sugar to help out the fact that I will only use real butter when making it. It is sweat like sweet potato souffle' and light. It could be dessert!
I also do the deviled eggs and Dressing (Paula Dean's way).
Usually a cake of my choice also. My son has been asking for a Gooey Butter Cake (Paula Dean also), so I rather imagine that is going to be my pick. When we went to Savannah we ate at her establishment and we tried it and fell in love with it.
Another must on a major Holiday is Cheese dip. The kind with Rotel, sausage, Velveeta and mushroom soup. I make a big batch of that to go with tortilla chips. I also get wonton's and put them in muffin tins and bake them to make cups. I get a pound of ground beef and brown it with chopped onions (sweet ones) and drain it. I then add a pkt. of Ranch dressing mix and grated sharp cheddar cheese. I mix that in the hamburger and fill the cups again and finish baking them until bubbly. We always munch on this all day until the BIG meal.
Can't wait!

When we went we stayed at the East Bay Inn. Lovely place. The Green Palm Inn is also a very nice down to earth Bed and Breakfast. We chose East Bay because it was so very close to everything and they take pets! When we asked about the Pirate House they told us management had changed and they did not recommend it. We enjoyed the hearse ride and night around the city and all the ghost stories. Funny thing. I told my husband we needed to put our condo in Destin up for sale and sale our home when Chandler graduated and buy a home on one of the squares (like we could afford it). I would love to have your recipe for the sauce. Sounds great. Try her Gooey Butter cake and don't tell him about the butter in it either. Next time you go you have got to go and have her buffet at her restaurant.
You take care 2Beagles!
We had Swim Practice this morning at 6 am. Good thing we only have to do it that early once a week!

Sweet potatoe souffle, pecan pie, dumplings.
Ham, dressing and potato salad. Those are most haves.
Since moving into my house five years ago I have been making a Prime Rib Roast for Christmas Dinner. It is still delicious.
I was surprised how well the first one came out. I have tried a couple of different recipes all from the Foodnetwork of course.
The first one was a combination of a Chef at a Chicago Hotel and the Barefoot Contessa.
