German ingredients in america?!


Question: i've got a german waffle recipe(in german) and i've got the whole thing translated including amounts HOWEVER it calls for things like "1 package vanilla, 1 package baking powder" and lets face it in America those things do not come in packages..........what should i do??

My suggestion is to get a boxed waffle mix. We prefer the one they have at Williams-Somona. You can get waffle mix at the grocery store, too.

I do have a German friend at work, I will see if she knows what the conversion may be. I will email you if I find out something.

Update: I talked with my German friend and she said they do have packages in California - at Old World and at Alpine Village in So Cal. If you have a little German community where you live like that, they would probably have the packages. Dr Oetker makes these packages - here is the link:

Yeah...they do....

go to the web and find out how much a package weighs and convert from there

look at other waffle recipes and see how much baking powder or vanilla they call for. I imagine a recipe like this would call for 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 2 teaspoons baking powder. I like to cook and bake. these ingredients usually are used in small amounts. I would suggest that you play around with it a little.
you could also try an european food import store for help.
