Help.. am I gonna start a fire?? Heating oil to high?!


Question: OK I have these frozen chicken breasts cooking i the oven and since my cookie sheet (yes thats what im using) is not non-stick and i am out of non-stick spray, i greased the cookie sheet with vegetable oil, and it started popping and smelling like smoke a little!! am i gonna burn the kitchen down?? help im still learning to cook

Next time, defrost the chicken breast and pat them dry with paper towels. Then drizzle a little vegetable or olive oil on then and rub it with your hands to coat the chicken. Season your chicken. You don't need to 'grease' a pan, just use foil. the chicken and the oil you rubbed onto it will provide enough fat to keep them from sticking. Cook at 375 for about 40 minutes and it should be done.

Take the chicken out and put it on a new cookie sheet, it shouldn't stick.

keep draining your pan so oil does not build up and pop... or next time put a small amount of oil on a paper towel and wipe the pan with the paper towel so there is not to much oil

Most likely you're not going to have an instant indoor barbeque, it's probably the liquids from the chicken hitting the hot oil making it pop and spit and the drops of oil are hitting your heating elements making the smoky smell. Cover the birds with tin foil for a little while - they'll cook faster and you won't have a nervous breakdown watching the oven. :D
