Refrigerator Bread and Butter Pickles
3 cups sugar
1/3 cup pickling salt
1 tsp celery seed
3 cups vinegar
1 tsp tumeric
1 tsp mustard seed
4 or 5 medium onions
8 or 10 cucumbers
sliced carrots (optional)
1 gallon jar
Combine the first six ingredients in a gallon jug. Slice 4 or 5 medium onions; add 8 to 10 sliced cucumbers in the jar. Carrots may be added. Place in refrigerator and stir once a day for 10 days.

Refrigerator Bread and Butter Pickles

Pickling cucumbers to fill a gallon jar
3 onions sliced
4 cups sugar
4 cups vinegar
1/3 cup plain salt
1 1/2 tsp each turmeric, mustard seed and celery seed

Combine sugar and vinegar in small saucepan over low heat to dissolve sugar. Add spices. Pack sliced cucumbers and onions in jar very tight, add liquid and spices, seal and refrigerate.

These bread and butter pickles are a wonderful little side dish to set out with just about any meal, but our first love will always be adding them to sandwiches.

REFRIGERATOR BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES

3 c. sugar
3 c. vinegar
1/3 c. canning salt
1 tbsp. mustard seed
1 tbsp. celery seed
1 tbsp. turmeric

Wash slicing cucumbers and slice thin. Layer in glass jars with onion as desired. Combine above ingredients - sugar, vinegar, salt, mustard seed, celery seed and turmeric. Heat slightly until sugar is dissolved. Let cool, then pour over cucumber slices. Cover and keep refrigerated. Let stand a day before starting to use.

BREAD AND BUTTER REFRIGERATOR PICKLES

Wash and slice medium cucumbers enough to fill a one-gallon jar.
Slice 3 small onions and add to cucumbers.

Mix together:
4 c. dark (cider) vinegar
1/2 c. canning salt
1 1/3 tsp. turmeric
1 1/3 tsp. mustard seed
Pour over cucumbers.
Cover, but do not seal.
Ready in 5 days, but will keep 9 months.
