To make cupcakes in ice cream cones?!
Answers: How much of the ice cream cones should you wrap with foil before you place them in the oven? I've been told that wrapping them with aluminum foil prevents them from burning, but do you just wrap the bottoms or pretty much the entire thing? Thanks in advance!
i just pour the batter in the ice cream cone and bake never had any problems with them burning. I have added such things as a marshmallow to the bottom before pouring the batter in, have inserted a piece of a candy bar in the center of them before baking, also have added a small ball of cookie dough to the bottom of each for a nice surprise in the bottom. and then just baked like regular cupcakes keeping an eye on them so they dont get too done. Now they make a pan for doing them in ice cream cones to keep them standing upright. i have seen them in a department store and some of the magazines you get in the mail. if you bake them in ice cream cones a lot those might come in handy.
I have never wrapped the cone in aluminium. I usually just put a marshmellow in the bottom and then the cake mix on top. I follow the instruction on the cake mix box for the time. I think that it is usally about 22 minutes. I put the marshmallow in to take up space so you don't use so much cake mix. the Marshmallow melts as the cake cooks.
I did it all the time when my kids were little, but I don't remember ever wrapping the cones in foil.
No need to wrap :)
Cakes in Cones:
1 pkg. chocolate cake mix (or whatever kind you like)
30 ice cream cones
1 pkg frosting mix or ice cream
Check the cake mix box for additional ingredients required (water, vegetable oil and eggs). Prepare cake mix as required. Pour batter into ice cream cones, approximately 1/3 full. Place cones in muffin pans so they don't fall over, and cook at the time and temperature as directed for cupcakes.
You can then either frost and decorate them or place a scoop of ice cream on top and place them in the freezer until ready to serve.
Note: Don't use cracked cones or else the batter will leak as it bakes and rises.
This was a recipe the Child Center made for the kids that attended.
Wrapping them is too much effort, just go with the marshmellow in the bottom!
I have made these cupcake cones in the past and I didn't wrap them and don't think the really ever burned. You might add mini chocolate chips to white of yellow cake and fill cones about 2/3 full and follow instructions for cupcakes (temp and time). A couple of mini marshmallows in chocolate or devils-food cake batter might be good too.
ICE CREAM CONE CUPCAKES
Basic cupcake batter, box mix
12 flat-bottom wafer ice cream cones
Make batter for cupcakes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spoon the cake batter into about a dozen flat-bottomed wafer ice cream cones. Fill each about 2/3 full.
Line up the cones on a large baking dish or jelly roll pan. Bake for 20 minutes. They'll puff up and look like ice cream cones. Let your cupcakes cool before you frost and decorate them.

Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until done.
Cool on a wire rack. Let cool completely if frosting.
