What kind of bread is this? (name of a bread)?!

Question: one time at a resturant I was served this type of bread, it was soooo good! But I have no clue what to ask for when I go to the bakery section! I'll describe it, if someone can tell me the name of it and if it's available at the grocery/bakery section or w/e....

very dark in color (like a chocolate brown)

shaped like an oblong oval typ, rounded top

was sliced into pieces, with butter on top

was not very soft like white bread, but also wasn't hard either, was warmed up and firm like

lol - does anyone know this bread's name!?

If the bread was a little sweet it was most likely brown-bread/
Boston brown-bread. If it was not sweet it was likely pumpernickel (dark rye w/ a little chocolate) or a dark rye bread. Deli rye bread is usually the only rye with caraway seeds and it is most often a medium or light rye.

sounds like dark rye

I agree it sounds like dark rye.

Yes they are right it's rye bread. Its what I buy here in germany at the baker. It's called grau brot over hear. Lay man's term over here.

sounds more like a brown bread to me. maybe a squaw or boston brown. most restaurants serve these not reall will they serve rye breads.!!

yeah i was thinking squaw or pumperknickle. doesn't dark rye have little rye seeds throughout?
