How can I write in chocolate on top of small cakes?!

Question: I want to write names on top of iced buns, but I need the writing to be quite small. I have seen them small squeezy tubes of coloured icing but it comes out quite thick.

Is there anything else I can use that will be tidier with thinner writing?

The small squeeze tubes, are as you say, too thick.
The metal ones are made in sizes that are specifically for writing in icing or chocolate.
I used to make wedding cakes so I know they are around. You may need to pay a visit to a speciality shop though. Try Yellow Pages.
Have fun!

Melt some chocolate and pour into a ziploc bag. SNip the teeniest little bit off one corner and you can write that way.

You can get sugar letters, in bigger stores they might have these in a chocolate flavour.

piping bag ??

ive seen people use greaseproff paper, make it into a shape of a funnel and make a small hole in it,it should come out thin enough for u to do your writing hun...hope this helps..x

Make a template the size of the bun, get a small letter stencil for tracing their names onto the cardboard. Cut the names out of the template, use just the name you want and cover the other names with a scrap piece of cardboard, with a window cut out of it, so that the name you are using will be the only one open. Now lay it over the bun and sprinkle it with chocolate Nesquick or other chocolate drink mix.

Your best bet is to experiment with different types of chocolate and icing, and see which is the best consistency for your requirements.
It is always difficult to write like that, but if you experiment, have a steady hand and plenty of patience, I'm sre it'll turn out fine!

Make some icing using icing sugar, water and melted chocolate...you can make this as thick or thin as you like depending on how much water you add. Put this into a piping tube and then you can write the names on the buns...good luck!
