what is a tablet?

not just trying to get points, really...what are tablets? maybe we could help if we knew?

1Kg Granulated Cane Sugar
25gm butter
1 large tablespoon Golden Syrup
7 fluid ounces of milk made up to 1/2 pt with water.
Small tin of condensed milk (or 1/2 a large tin)

Put the sugar, butter syrup and the milk/water mixture into a large saucepan and heat gently whilst stirring to dissolve the sugar. Do not allow it to boil until the sugar has all dissolved (test this by tapping the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon - if still "gritty" go on stirring and heating slowly.)

When all has dissolved boil rapidly for approximately 10 minutes (the mix will start to change colour slightly)

Add a small tin of condensed milk.

Boil for approx another 10 minutes, until the mix reaches the "soft ball" stage. - to test drop a small amount of mixture into cold water - if it forms a firm but soft ball it is ready.

Remove the pan from the heat and beat vigorously until the wooden spoon leaves a "trail"

Pour into a well greased Swiss roll tin and mark into squares before it is fully set.

Use a large pan as the mixture froths up quite a lot when boiling.

Good Luck
