Why do we usually find room for desert even after a big meal?!
Thank you!
Answers: After eating soup, turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, salad and drinking some juice, how on earth am I able to want to eat some chocolate fudge even though I can't even look at the turkey anymore? I never understood why. Does anyone know?
Thank you!
That's "dessert" and part of the reason is the change in flavors. We tend to eat more when we have a variety of flavors present so when you mention a meal of meat and veggies, people will tend to go ahead and eat that sweet dessert even if they are stuffed, because they desire that 'new' flavor'.
...or sometimes we're simply greedy and don't want to miss out, even though our stomach is well past the level of feeling "full". It takes about 20 mins for our stomach to send our brain the signal that it's had enough (not to digest the food, as another poster mentioned, that takes many hours) so if we are eating fast then we can easily overeat before the stomach tells the brain it's had enough...so we may think we have room for dessert but 30 mins later we're miserable.
It's because we don't give our bodies time to process the fact that we have just eaten a large amount of food. It takes the body 20 minutes to digest the food we have eaten and to give you that full feeling. If you wait about 20 minutes then you prob. wont want dessert for a little while!
I don't.
Another reason this could be is because we know how wonderful and sweet those things taste...and after a big meal, we often want something sweet to finish it off
We are PIGS!
i think it is b/c most of what we eat for dinner is generally salty adn when dessert comes to mind it help even it out...so even though you can't stand to look at what you had for dinner, you can stand to shovel down some pie.
plus i think everyone has a little sweet tooth in them.
Us Americans have a bad habit of eating too much. If you want desert after dinner, don't eat such a big meal. My wife and I usually share a meal at the restaurant because the portions are almost always too big for what we need.
We are healthy and vibrant for our age. Many of our friends same age can't keep up with us.
Equally important is what you eat as well as how much. Unless we are growing and NEED that much food, it is better to eat a small meal - one you would never guess would be enough. But believe me, a little is often quite enough.
lol.. its because we have had TOOO much of the normal food, but somehow... SOMEHOW that sugar looks so good... we just manage to stuff it down.. not very scientific answer, but oh well lol.
my thanksgiving dinner:
Turkey, sweet potatoes with brown sugar and butter, salad, mashed potatoes, stuffing, all with gallons of gravy on the top cranberry jello and sparkling cider. YUM!!!!
It because we are full off the food not the desert. If we know that we are getting a desert then we will keep that in mind. Either that or are eyes are bigger than our stomaches.LOL
idk............but good question
