I do not have butter, shortening, or margarine!!! What else can I substitute for it???!
Answers: Oil works; just make sure it's not olive oil for a cake/cookie--sweet recipe ( vegetable, corn, safflower, peanut oil works pretty much as a substitute for most things--olive oil usually fills in fine if you're doing fish,poultry,seafood, veggies or bread recipes).

I'm pretty sure if your baking, you can sub sour cream, or applesauce. Or even vanilla yogurt. That's only if your baking though. Hope that was helpful!
If you're frying or such you can substitute oil but if it's for a recipe or something i wouldn't subsittue anything and would go buy some.
It depends what are you using it for. You could use oil too!!
If the recipe calls for one of the above then you need to get one of them. If you use oil, it will not give you the consistency required for the recipe.
