HERB - CHEESE BREAD
2 pkgs. dry yeast
1/4 c. lukewarm water
1 3/4 c. skim milk
2 1/2 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
6 c. sifted flour
2 tbsp. oil
2 c. shredded cheddar
1/2 tsp. dill
1/2 tsp. rosemary
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/2 tsp. basil
Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Mix sugar and milk together and add to the yeast. To this mixture add salt and 3 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Add oil, cheese, and herbs. Gradually mix in the remaining flour until dough is stiff enough to handle. Knead dough until it is smooth and elastic. Place dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat all sides, cover with a cloth and let rise in a warm place until double in size.
Divide into 2 equal parts, shape into loaves and place in two 10 x 5 loaf pans. Cover and let rise again until doubled. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 375 degrees and continue baking for 30 minutes longer. Remove bread from pans. Cool on wire rack.
MONKEY BREAD WITH HERBS AND CHEESE
Enough dough for 2 loaves homemade bread or 2 loaves frozen bread dough. 1 1/2 cups grated cheese. Melt 1/2 stick butter, cool slightly. Beat in:
1 egg
1/4 tsp. garlic salt
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. dill or whatever herbs or spices you prefer
Shape pieces of bread dough into biscuit size chunks and roll in butter mixture and place in a greased angel food or bundt cake pan. Top first layer with grated cheese and another layer of dough prepared as above. Top with cheese. Let rise and bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes. Serve warm with spread cheese or butter.
Depends on what kind of herb you mean...
Get some Cibatta bread and slice it in half. Mix some dried italian seasoning and softened butter together and spread it on the bread. Sprinkle some Parmasean cheese or Mozzarella on the butter. Then sprinkle some paprika on top of the cheese and put the two pieces back together. Wrap in foil and put in a 400 degree oven for 10-15 mins! Or if you want a little spice to your bread sprinkle some Cayenne pepper on top of the cheese, but just a little. A little goes a long way. Good luck!!
CHEESE BREAD
2 cups flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt, +1/4 tsp.thyme,1/4 tsp.rosemary,1/4 tsp.basil.
1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
1/4 grated Parmesan cheese
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Preheat oven to 350F degrees.
Combine flour, baking powder, salt and spices Stir in Cheddar cheese and 1/4 cup Parmesan. Mix together eggs, butter and milk. Add to the dry ingredients. Stir only until moistened. Batter will be somewhat lumpy. Do not over mix.
Pour into a greased 9x5" loaf pan. Smooth down the center with a wet spatula to flatten top. Sprinkle evenly with 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese.
Bake about 45 minutes.
Serve warm, or sprinkled with cheese and toasted the next day.This is a quick bread
