instead of buying canned jellied cranberry sauce, you can make orange-cranberry relish.

AND, you can make it ahead of time.

same foods smaller portions.

Thanksgiving, traditionally is VERY healthy.

Turkey and potatoes BOTH have a way of making people feel very full and tired. Just the properties of those foods.

Turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, pumpkin pie....ALL extremely healthy. Eat less of it if it makes you full, and don't drink any alcohol....and definitely don't eat any appetizers beforehand.

Contrary to popular belief, and as you obviously agree, Thanksgiving isn't all about stuffing yourself and falling asleep on the couch. As long as you are with the people you are greatful for, the meal is just an expression of that. Make anything! But if you want to stick along the roasted bird side of things- I recommend roasting a nice chicken, with a panzanella (bread + tomato salad) instead of greasy stuffing, some sweet potato mash (lower in carbs and calories than normal potatoes) and a green salad.

Make the turkey, but not the gravy. Instead of creamed corn, or green bean casserole, have healthy vegetables (corn and beans with diced peppers) and a raw vegetable plate. Make sugar free jello with fruit and lite cool whip.

What I look forward to the most, is making the turkey soup after dinner is over. I use lots of onions, carrots & celery. Sometimes I add a little wild rice.

Fruit salad had been big hit. Drain and cool:
1 can pineapple tidbits
1 can crushed pineapple
1 can fruit cocktail
2 cans mandarin oranges
large bag of raspberries (thawed & drained)
mix in whipped cream and cool (will turn lavender).
Save some whipped cream for top & decorate with mandarin oranges.

Hot apple cider for drinks.
celery sticks with cheese whiz on celery for appitizers.
