Answers: mashed potatoes, meatloaf, fried chicken, gravy...apple pie,hot dogs, mac n cheese, green bean cassserole, and chili. The basic "comfort" foods of our grandparents.

It has to be something invented by a citizen or visitor because this is a country who got its food mainly from England and Scotland and later from a hundred other countries. get it?
We don't have a national cuisine, it's all regional, somewhere between 7 and 14 regions depending how you look at it.
So the most US Empire thing--since we haven't had a constitution since 1994--is whatever is made in the most places and enjoyed in all of them. There are only a few nominees.
Mine is pumpkin pie. But several other answers are possible.
