Is it safe to put aluminum foil around a crock pot?!

Question: I love cooking turkeys in my crock pot. They turn out so tender and juicy. Well, this one just doesn't quite fit. The lid is about a half inch up from the crock pot. Would it be safe to put aluminum foil around the outside of the crock pot to complete the seal?

Yes, probably.... but why not weight the lid down for the first couple hours w/ some dish towels and some canned goods? Once turkey shrinks a bit, you can remove them.

it would not be enogh to complete the seal

Hmm. That's a good question. I don't think the aluminum would be a problem but it would'nt work cuz the steam would still escape.

It is hard to picture your problem
??? - - the pot is a smaller diameter than the heating element???
OR
The lid fits inside the pot.??
If you visit a thrift shop they sometimes have lots of lids because people break the crock.
while your there you may find a complete cooker cheep.
I make an aluminum blanket for the lid and leave a pot holder on top to keep a little extra heat in.
BUT not around the out side of the metal heater..
