If you dont have baking soda for a peanut butter cookie recipe, will baking powder work?!


Question: i got this recipe off of foodnetwork.com and all the recipes involve baking soda, but i only have baking powder.
oh, and im not going to be baking the cookies, but eating the dough. i know not so healthy, but who cares?

No. Baking powder has baking soda in it, but it also has creme of tartar or some other acid to act as a neutralizing agent. It will act and taste differently than if you simply used baking soda.

NO do not do it, one makes it fluffy the other will just ruin it...BEWARE, it will taste terrible if you substitute anything but the real thing.

Um. No. Just don't do it. Go out and run to the store and buy some more right now, or else you'll ruin the cookies.

the situation is even worse as what is baking soda in some countries is referred to as baking powder in others......other countries it's the same thing and what you call baking soda is bi-carbonate of soda

in the UK we have bi-carb & baking powder

when a recipe says baking soda , I panic because it could mean either depending on which continent the recipe is from

bet you are really confused now!

mix the two and you have cream of tartare (UK)

If you are oly going to eat teh dough. Go for it is doesn't matter.

Don't ever substitute one for the other. Will ruin your recipe.
