Peanut butter cookies?!
Answers: When cooking peanut butter cookies, is there a reason to smash them down with a fork before cooking them? Or do you just do it because everybody else does?
They cook better if they aren't heaped in the middle, the consistent height you get by squishing them with a fork makes them cook more evenly.
They are a drop cookie-probably started with somebody who wanted flatter cookies and now it's tradition : )
They are actually a rolled cookie that cooks more evenly and faster if they are flattened. The fork was just a way to make it look interesting.
There are other rolled cookies that aren't flattened... you could leave them in balls and roll them in sugar...
I like the look of the fork marks on the cookie, it says "peanut butter".
