What is a good recipe for a beginner cook?!

Question: I'm really bad at cooking. All I know is a microwave.

This is easy and one my family really likes...it makes a nice creamy gravy as it cooks

Pork Chop Casserole

1( 6 oz) pkg long grain and wild rice mix

2 C. hot water

6 pork chops

small onion, in thin slices

1 can cream of celery soup

1/2 C. milk

Combine rice and hot water and pour into a lightly greased 13 X 9 pan

Place chops over rice... sprinkle with Season All. Place thin onion slices over chops.

Cover tightly with foil and bake at 350 for one hour.

Uncover....combine soup and milk... pour over casserole and cook 15 minutes more , uncovered..

*** Sometimes I use cream of mushroom soup.

start out easy with something like a grilled cheese or nachos then something like eggs or bacon. Then try something like brownies or even a cake. You will get better!!

Try this...if you like stuffed cabbage. Unstuffed Cabbage
Cook 2 cups of rice (equal parts of water and rice). Place rice in a bowl. Fry up 2 pounds of hamburger. Drain and Place in bowl with rice. Add 2 eggs to bowl and a large can of tomato soup. Mix altogether. Shred a head of cabbage...with a knife or with a food processor. Place in bowl and mix again! Bake in a covered dish for 3-4 hours at 350 degrees...just until the cabbage is tender! This is one of my hubby's favorite meals and it is extremely easy to make!

Check out foodnetwork.com. Run a search of the ingredients you want to use and they will show recipes using those ingredients and also give ratings on the difficulty of the recipe. Start with something easy. Make sure that all your ingredients are either pre-measured or at hand so that when it comes time to add them, you will be able to locate them immedately. I usually measure mine into small bowls or measuring cups and line them up in the order in which they go into the recipe. Make sure you also have a timer ready, or two, even. I use the timer on my stove, the one on my microwave and I have a regular timer. Read through the recipe carefully before starting to make sure you understand the meaning of the terms. Some of them can be tricky. If you aren't sure, check Wiki for the meaning. If the directions say to stir in a liquid such as water, s-t-i-r it in slowly, a little at a time. If you don't you will have a lumpy mess.

i hope this helps. Ten years ago, I couldn't cook a thing but macaroni and cheese. And I sucked at that! Now I love to cook. I watched Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals and found that the recipes she did worked great. You can also find her recipes on foodnetwork.com.

Good luck and Bon Appetite!

I started out by trying some mac & cheese, or spagetti. Both of those are pretty easy to cook. All you have to do is follow the instructions. You have to know how to boil water. LOL I hope that this will be a good start for you.

find a place to take a class ... usually the only thing wrong is technique ...

for REALLY basic beginner stuff, start with hamburger helper and other boxed meals that require minimal prep work ... after a while you will notice little things that change texture and flavor of the meat and noodles ... then you can start looking for more complex recipes ... cooks.com is good, just type in the main ingredient and look for one with only a couple of ingredients and very simple prep steps ...

don't be afraid to taste test while you cook so you know when you are almost done and do not over cook it ...

1 really simple recipe is a fettuccini alfredo recipe:
used boxed pasta - bring the appropriate amount of water to a boil with a dash of salt and 1 tsp olive oil on high heat
reduce to med-high and add pasta - use the time on the box as a guide, but check a piece with your teeth occassionally to see when it is to the texture you like
while that boils, melt a half stick of butter in a small sauce pan on med-low heat
add 1Tbsp of pre-diced garlic (bought in a jar) to the pan and stir gently for 2 minutes
add 1/4 cup of heavy whipping cream - continue stirring until small bubbles form and then reduce to low heat
keep stirring until the pasta is done
when pasta is done, drain it and place in single-serving portions (as suggested in quantity by the box) on plates
add the desired amount of grated parmesean cheese
then add a couple tablespoons the cream sauce slowly evently over the pasta so it touches all of the cheese
spinkle with just a little bit of parsley and salt and pepper to taste ... you can add more sauce if desired ...
it is a simple recipe, but to make sure you have the technique down i had to write a lot of detail ... see why i say that was usually the key thing when it comes to cooking?

Try Simple and Delicious magazine (formerly called Quick Cooking). It is a magazine but it is only recipes and cooking tips.

This one is so easy! Chicken Reuben:
Place boneless, skinless chicken breasts in an oven proof pan
Top with Russian dressing
Then top with sauerkraut
Bake @ 350 degrees about 30 minutes
Top with slices of swiss cheese and bake another 5 minutes or until cheese is melted.
You can serve this with mashed potatoes or french fries.
