Oozing Jello Brain?!
Answers: I have a Jello mold in the shape of a brain. I once saw a recipe to scoop out a bunch of it after it sets, put a mixture of karob syrup and something else in it and then put more jello in it to seal it back up so it oozes when you cut it. Any ideas. I want it edible. Thanks.
2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
1 can (29 oz.) canned peaches in syrup
1 cup milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
6 tablespoons peach flavored syrup
1 can raspberry pie filling
Makes 1 Brain Gelatin Mold
Prepare the mold by following instructions on the mold package to oil the mold and place in a bowl for stability.
Pour milk and cream into a small saucepan and sprinkle with gelatin. Whisk the mixture well, then let it sit for 3 minutes. Place the pan over medium heat and bring to a boil, whisking frequently to insure that gelatin dissolves. Immediately remove the pan from the heat, pour contents into another bowl and let the mixture cool for about 20 minutes.
Puree remaining ingredients, except pie filling.
Pour purée into cooled cream mixture and stir well. Pour about half of mixture into prepared mold. Chill until set but not firm -- about 40-50 minutes. (Hint: I help the process along put alternating the chilling time between the freezer and fridge -- but be careful you do not want the mixture to freeze). Remove mold from the refrigerator. Carefully spoon the raspberry pie filling into the center. If you like, you can scoop a small space before you add the filling, but be careful not to take too much or the filling will bleed through to the outside of the mold. Stir well and pour into the prepared gelatin mold. Chill until firm -- at least 4 hours.
To unmold, dip the bottom of mold in a bowl filled with hot water, taking care to not let any water get into the mold. Dipping the mold for a few seconds helps to loosen the gelatin from the mold. Remove from water and dry off the bottom of the mold. Place a serving platter over the bottom of the mold and flip both over. Carefully remove the mold from the gelatin.
One recipe calls for Raspberry Liqueur or Raspberry Jam...
It's not really oozing, but I like to mix in cool whip into the jello when it becomes slightly so it becomes an opaque color. I swirl the cloudy looking jello and the regular kind so it looks more like brain.
Flesh Toned Qwiggle Brain Jello Mold Recipe
Cleaning the Mold:
Wash the entire inside cavity of the plastic brain mold using a soft sponge, dish soap, and warm water before each use.
Use care to avoid puncturing a hole in the thin areas of the plastic mold while washing and drying it.
Dry thoroughly before use.
Ingredients:
Three large, 6 ounce boxes of peach or watermelon flavored gelatin. (Using any other flavored gelatin will not result in a flesh toned appearance.)
One 12 ounce can of lite evaporated skimmed milk (99.5% fat free). No other milk will work!
Oil Cooking Spray (to lubricate the plastic mold)
Two teaspoons of vegetable oil (to lubricate the plastic mold)
Green Food Coloring
Three ? cups of water(2 ? cups boiled, 1 cup cold)
Recipe Instructions:
Spray a small amount of vegetable oil inside of the cavity of the plastic mold. Wipe off any excess oil.
Place gelatin from the boxes into a large bowl.
Add 2 ? cups of boiling water. Stir gelatin with a whisk until it is completely dissolved, about 3 minutes.
Stir in one cup of cold water.
Add skimmed milk and stir for two minutes. (If a clear brain is desired, leave out the skimmed milk and add an additional 1 ? cups of cold water)
Add a few drops of green food coloring to produce the flesh tone color, re-stir.
Pour gelatin mixture into the plastic brain mold.
Leave approximately one inch space from the top of the mold.
Wrap a towel around the bottom of the mold. The towel will help to keep the mold upright.
Set the towel and mold in the refrigerator overnight.
Extracting the hardened gelatin from the mold:
Carefully shake the mold until the gelatin is loosened from the plastic mold.
Put on a cooking glove, and place the open palm of your hand on the top of the gelatin, and turn the mold over.
Shake the mold again.
Continue to carefully shake the mold until the brain plops out onto your gloved hand.
Place mold onto a plate or a platter.
Cover the mold with a plastic food wrap and return the mold to the refrigerator until you are ready to put it on display and serve it.

Jello, l large package of lime flavor Jello
1 large package of peach or watermelon flavor
1 can NONFAT evaporated milk
water measuring cup
2 large bowls
1 VERY large bowl
brain mold
cooking oil or non-stick kitchen coating spray
Set the brain mold upside down in its stand and spray
with non-stick kitchen spray, or pour some cooking oil
into it, swirl around, and pour it off and discard. (It doesn't
matter if the mold ends up very oily; most of this will later
rise to the top.)
Make the two packages of Jello separately, following the
directions on the package, boiling water and all, except
use a cup less water in each recipe. Let the two batches
of Jello cool in the two large bowls for half an hour or so.
Then, while stirring, add the can of nonfat evaporated milk
to one of the Jello bowls, and pour this mixture into the
VERY large bowl.
After this is done and all stirred in, begin to add the other
flavor of Jello to the very large bowl, while stirring constantly.
When the brain looks nicely flesh-colored to you, stop adding
the other flavor.
Pour the contents of the very large bowl into the brain mold,
and refrigerate overnight. To unmold, jiggle the whole thing
wildly until you hear the brain flopping back and forth, then
upend it onto a plate, and there you are! (If it STILL will not
unmold, partly immerse the mold in a bowl of warm water
for a few seconds and try again.)
