A question about vanilla?!

Question: Im thinking of infusing some vodka that I have with vanilla pods (by dropping them into the bottle).

Will I have to burst the pods to get the flavour or will the flavour infuse without breaking the pod?

yummy....you can do either, but remember if you split the pod you'll get black seeds in your vodka, they won't taste bad but could look a bit dodgy and possibly feel a bit grainy when you drink it. I'd just stick the pods in whole and leave them for a couple of weeks, taste it then and if not strong enough leave a bit longer.

why waste good vanilla pods

just slice down the 'vein' of the pod... dont burst it, could turn nasty! the flavour will infuse slightly without doing this, but its more effective if u slit it... and vanilla vodka is brilliant stuff!

Either way. You don't HAVE to break the pods, just put them in there. You should let it set for a week or more to let the flavor infuse.
