Would it be considered acceptable to serve jello cheesecake as a dessert at a somewhat formal dinner?!
Answers: nothing too fancy but i have never made real cheesecake and the jello no bake stuff tastes really good, to me anyway. im not talking about a fancy occasion. but a few new friends are coming over and i am sure they are used to great meals. im keeping it simple. just baked chicken with stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy which i will make fresh. and a few side vegetables, probably green beans fried in bacon grease and steamed broccoli with cheese sauce. i know i can cook all of that very well. but im not much of a dessert person. its really no big deal but i would like to also make the dessert myself. i have never made a pie or cake other than the prepackaged store bought stuff. any simple but somewhat elegant dessert ideas?
I myself do not bake much either. But I do have one I always make for any function and it is always a hit. Pineapple upside-down cake. Sounds complicated? Well its not. I am not much for frosting I like simple all in one recipes. Buy a box of pineapple supreme cake. Duncan Hines, Betty crocker whatever all the same. Buy a can of pineapple slices and marchino cherries, box brown sugar, stick butter. Prepare cake mix according to box. Melt stick butter in separate bowl and pour in you baking pan coat bottom and sprinkle entire bottom of pan with brown sugar, line the entire bottom with pineapple slices ,slice cherries in half and place in the middle of each pineapple face up. Then pour cake batter over everything and pop in oven 350 degrees. When it is down flip it over on to a serving dish and you see the pretty yellow pineapples with the red cherries. Duncan Hines has the recipe for this cake on the side of the box of pineapple supreme. People go crazy for this cake and it looks pretty and they always think I am this great baker! Not!
go for it. no bake cheesecake is great. you can dress it up with strawberrys or other fruit too.
I think it would be just fine to serve it. You could perhaps add some nice garnishes...some shaved chocolate and dust it with icing sugar, or maybe some fresh berries etc.
I would say you could, but dress it up. A really good idea would be you maybe make individual servings (about cupcake size) with a mint leaf and a raspberry on top.
You can probably form them with little pieces of paper, cardboard or waxed paper taped into circles on a cookie sheet. That way they can take shape of little tarts and when you chill them, ta-da! Mini cheesecakes!
I think it depends who you are serving it to. If it's just family and friends then that's fine. But dress it up.
Now if your serving it to your boss or people with discriminating palates I probably wouldn't. They would know. You'd be better off serving something simple like a fruit recipe. Likes strawberries soaked in a nice liquor with real whipped cream. You can also buy a good sorbet or something simple but classy.
Oh YA! its really good and some people think youve speat hrs on it!!!!!
A formal dinner with gelatin dessert would be like bring Hamburber Helper! Dude, pick up a Sacher Torte, German Chocolate Cake or large Fruit Tart if you don't want to look silly! Maybe some Jello 'Chocolate flavored' pudding???
No! Have a professional make desserte for you. It will be a great finish.
Everything else sounds good!

Miniature Cheesecakes
1 1/2 packages (8 oz size) cream cheese
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
3/4 tsp vanilla
Topping:
1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
strawberry or pineapple preserves
Let cream cheese soften in a medium size bowl; add 1/2 cup sugar, and cream together thoroughly.
Add eggs, on at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add 3/4 tsp vanilla and beat until smooth and creamy.
Place paper cupcake (foil if you have them) in a muffin tin and using a teaspoon, fill each one 2/3 full. Bake in a preheated 300 F oven 20 to 25 minutes. Cool 10 minutes (cakes will cave in slightly in center).
Make topping: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix sour cream, sugar and vanilla. Using a teaspoon top each with a small amount, enough to cover the top. Top with small amount of preserves in center of each cake. Return pan to oven and bake an additional 10 minutes. Makes about 2-3 dozen.
