Making Jelly for the first
Please do not say if it doesnt set up then I can use it as a fruit juice as Ive seen some answers like that. This is a pepper jelly not a fruit jelly so using it as a juice wouldnt be so tastey.

Answers: Today I made jelly for the first time. Its my first time doing any sort of "canning". I followed the directions but got ahead of myself and added the pectin in with the sugar and apple cider vinger. I brought it to a boil as the recipe called for then realized my mistake! I was supposed to add it AFTER the sugar and cider came to a rolling boil and was REMOVED from the heat. I added a little more pectin (very little) after I took it off the heat too. Will it still set up? How long does it take to thicken? Or should I just throw it all away..

Your jelly should set just fine. Some jellies may take 12 hours to set. If the jelly still has not set after 24 hours, it will not set. To correct this simply reprocess with fresh pectin. Most pectin packages will have directions on the package for reprocessing after a failed set. Nearly all jam/jelly recipes add the pectin (powder or liquid) before bringing the juice/fruit to a boil, then adding the sugar and bring back to a full rolling boil that can not be stirred down. Pepper jelly made w/ liquid pectin is a exception. However I have never seen a recipe that called for the pectin to be added after the pepper juice, sugar & vinegar mixture is removed from the heat (but that is not to say such a recipe doesn't exist). The ones I've seen, and used, require the mixture be boiled another 1 to 2 minutes after the pectin is added.
If your pepper jelly is not set after 24 hours here's what to do. Get another package of the liquid pectin you originally used. Unseal all the jars. Discard the lids in your trash or recycle bin. Wash all the screw bands. Using a small rubber spatula, pour/scrape as much of the unset jelly as you can into your jelly cooking pot. Wash and sterilize the empty jelly jars in hot water and set on the counter where you'll be filling them after the jelly is reprocessed. Prepare new lids according to the directions on the lid package. Place a tall glass filled with cold water, from the tap, next to where you'll be recooking the jelly. Using med-hi to hi heat, start reheating the jelly. After it is very warm stir in the contents of the new package of pectin. Continue to heat to a full rolling boil that cannot be stirred down. Remember there is sugar in the jelly and it will burn on the bottom of the pot if you don't continuously stir. The stirring need not be frantic - just a nice gentle stir to keep the jelly stirred away from bottom of the pot. After the jelly is boiling, lift the spoon sideways out of the jelly and let a drop of the jelly fall into the glass of water. When the drop of jelly falls thru the water in a soft loose ball it is time to take the jelly off the heat and ladle it into the clean jelly jars. Leave 1/4 inch headspece. Place prepared lids on jars and screw the band gently down. Place the jars in a boiling-water canner and process for 5 minutes if you live at 0 to 1,000 ft. If you live above 1,000 ft, add 1 minute for each additional 1,000 ft.
Likely you'll have a partially filled jar left over. Just put a lid and screwband on it. After it is cool put it in the fridge and eat within 2 weeks. This jar may seal, but it is best to disregard the seal and not store it.
make a pb AND J! ;)
my jelly tates better when i spit on it
Isle 2 at the grocery store - then you have no worries!
I actually want to try to make jelly now :D

im sorry it sounds like a mess
i just use does jelly mixes from the store and all u do i put water and mix and then stick it into the fridge. ready in 2 hours!
very convienent!
my mom makes fruit jams literally all the time. Yes she always adds the pectin when the fruits boils down and the bad sugars (that extremly sweet foam) appears. If u didin't know, remove as much of that as possible. It still should be good tho. Seal it inn a jar, and boil it. to create that vaccum seal, check in a week if its jelly enough.
it will still set up,it'll just take longer than usual to get there.
It depends on the stuff. Some packages say it takes up to two weeks to set up. Check your package, and then wait and see. Sigh.... sounds just like something my sister-in-law and I would do.
I have made some jellies before, not a lot. I would let it sit. Some types of jelly can take up to 2 weeks to set up. Wait and see what happens. It may not affect it.
I make jelly.
The jelly I make .. jells very quickly .. almost instantly.
It also seals quickly .. you can hear the lids pop.
Usually - if it does not set fast .. then it won't be setting at all .. however, I don't know what kind you are making.
I follow the directions to a "t" .. because I know if I dont ... then the jelly will not make for me.
You might call the numbers given to you on the jell .. they might could give you more information.
Question should of said canning for the first time, however so I like to make salsa myself and it should be just fine, taste may be weaker than the next batch but not by much. If it didn't cost much the first time around, trash it try again I know the jars can cost more than the mixture; hate to see you waste money in jars. It's ok to make a mistake, and canning is FUN.
