Can you make pitta bread without yeast? maybe with self raising flour?!

Question: recipes please

Answers: recipes please

Self-rising breads don't have much structure. You really need yeast to make pita bread.

That doesn't mean you have to *buy* yeast. You can use regular flour with sourdough yeast. There are a gazillion recipes out there for sourdough starter.

Sourdough Pitas

1/2 cup sourdough starter
1/4 cup water
1 1/2 tsp sugar
3/4 tsp salt
1 cup flour

1/2 cup additional flour (approximately)
Makes 3-4 Pitas

Mix sourdough starter with next four ingredients, mixing/kneading well. Cover and let rise until doubled.

Add additional flour. Knead well. Divide dough into three equal parts. Form each into a smooth round ball. Let balls rest, covered for 10 minutes. Roll each ball to 1/2 inch thickness. Place on nonstick baking sheets and let rise.

Preheat oven to 475°F. The high temperature helps the pockets form. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until puffed up and just starting to turn light brown.

Although the recipe says 475F for 10 minutes, I'd go with 500F for 3-5 minutes. Your pita will be WAY too dry after 10 minutes.

i dont know how to make it but i know that it doesn't rise so it should be ok without the yeast

Why not make it out of plasticine. It might not taste so good, but hey! you gotta eat!

Sorry, but it won't work, you'll get a kind of white chappatti at best.
