I'm making tamales for Thanksgiving - You think thats wierd ?!

Question: I mean its actually easier, less time consuming, and with a few side dishes what the heck -- right? Think my family will freak out? They love my tamales

I'm going out for indian food. so there.

why not? make them.

Can I come over?

More power to ya! I'm all for bucking tradition and going with a different meal than anyone else. Last year we had steak for Christmas dinner. We have also done Bierocks.

Actually it's traditional in Hispanic culture, as well as making them for Christmas.

Not weird at all. In parts of Mexico's Christmas tradition. AND Miguel where are my tamales? It has been 10 years now ... I have a friend who makes tamales every Christmas, tamales that are to die for, he is a well trained chef in many cuisines... every year he promises .. and WHERE are they?:?? chuckle

I want some

no one said thanksgiving HAD to be traditional.

Make what you and your family wants.

Nah. When I was married we ate Korean food all the time. Thanksgiving is supposed to be about giving thanks, so if people went the opposite way -- having pork and beans, for instance -- it would be just as good as the big meal.

I'm not making this up. 2 Thanksgivings ago all I had in the refrigerator was a third of a jar of horseradish. That was my meal.

No it sounds yummy but you can't skip out on the turkey atleast make a turkey breast it's tradition. Or you could hold off on the tamales for Christmas.

I ONCE HAD A TURKEY FOR THANKSGIVING THAT WAS BAKED THEN DROPPED INTO A HUGE POT OF SPEG. SAUCE AND SIMMERED ALL DAY AND SERVED WITH NOODLES....IT WAS ACTUALLY VERY GOOD... SO NO I DON'T THINK THAT'S WEIRD, BESIDES THEY SHOULD BE THANKFUL.... YOUR COOKING:)

Go for it! We all have to color outside the lines once in a while!!!

Each year we have a different theme to our Thanksgiving. This year it BBQ! we have a lot of fun with the theme. Any way the foods great but being with your family is the best.

To each his/her own. Personally, I'd be disappointed if there wasn't some turkey and dressing around, also. Maybe you could cook a turkey breast or something also.
