Why are my pans turning white?!

Question: I have been boiling eggs in the mornings just about every day recently and I have started to notice that the pans that I do that in are turning white! As in, there seems to be a white film over the non-stick that I can't seem to get off. What is this and how can I restore my pans?

It is probably a calcium deposits from hard water. You can try using something called Bar-Keepers Friend, available at the cleaning section in most supermarkets, Wal-Mart, etc. It's a powdered cleanser that has a mild acid that will easily restore your pots and pans to near new condition. Be sure to use a cleansing pad that is rated safe for no-stick cookware. Hope that helps. I use this on my pots and pans and it works like a charm. Also works great to get stains off your counter tops, stove stop, etc. Also works great to get tea stains out of your cups.

Calcium or lime buildup can cause this to happen. I bet you use tap water... am I right? When you boil water it concentrates the natural mineral deposits in the water and leaves a residue on your pots and pans. Try a little CLR or other calcium/lime remover during washing, but be sure to rinse it well. Good luck

let them soak in vinegar and rinse well.

it is the calcium off the shell. the shell weakens as it cooks. to get the white stuff off, try soaking it over night in a vinegar and water solution. Mix it about 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar. this may take a couple days but it should work.

Minerals, clean/soak with vinegar
