Answers: Put the flour, salt, pepper and garlic powder in a brown paper bag. One by one, coat the chicken parts with mixture.

Wow! The sherry I would imagine defeats the purpose of fried chicken... in other words sogs out the crispy crust in the chicken.
As to a substitue... white wine... Sauvingnon Blanc, for example. Chardonnay may be too oaky for this application. Dry Vermouth would also work.
I guess I'm still shocked that the recipes has you frying the chicken (which sounds great) then steaming it in liquid.
Let us know how it turns out.
You can use just about any liquid you like. Like wine, broth, orange juice, apple juice. Whatever you like.
don't do anything just get some hot sauce and bread!!!!
Pooh! No fried chicken needs sherry... or anything else for that matter. When your chicken is golden brown, just place it on a platter lined with paper towels. It's ready to eat!
Cover the pieces in Sherry ????? Re-read recipe , that would be a lot of sherry. Madiera would make a good substitute.Check COVER pieces. Also the nice crisp crust you just made would be a gluey mess.
