If your boyfriend likes burgers and steak, let him eat them! His cholesterol levels will never get to be too high unless he's already at risk for it. If there IS a history of high cholesterol in his family, there's not much he can eat (or avoid eating) to lessen his risk.

If you want to lower the fat he's eating, that's different. Ground meat of any kind is usually pretty high in fat, but there is always the "extra lean" variety of ground beef. It does cost more, but there is much less loss of mass when cooking (not as much fat to melt away). So, you sort of get your money's worth.

Another alternative is to mix the beef with a lower-fat product, either meat or filler. Ground chicken or turkey are good choices, but make sure you don't substitute for more than half of the beef, otherwise the burgers will taste nothing like burgers! You can also try fillers like crushed, unsweetened cereals, bread crumbs, or cracker crumbs. If you do that, you'll need to supplement the moisture content; you can use broth, or Worcestershire or soy sauce, to augment flavor without adding fat.

use turkey burger

Buy the leanest ground beef that you can. Add 1/2 cup red wine to each pound of meat to help moisten it as you make it into patties.

For steaks - look for grass-fed beef (usually sold in places like Whole Foods and Wild Oats). These are higher in Omega-3's and usually have a lower fat content.

use to Gorege Forman grill

If your leaning towards taste stay away from ground turkey, even though it is very healthy it lacks in taste.Ground Sirloin is a good choice, its lean and has a very good taste, but is not very cost effective. If you notice ground round is very cheap with more additives. Ground sirloin is just what it says...sirloin steak ground up.

you can add texturized vegetable protein to his ground beef or add a little turkey in there. you could just tell him that he is going to be eating soy burgers from now on.
