What does 'DIVIDED' mean ?!

Question: Lots of recipes call for the food item (apples, etc.) to be 'divided' in preparation. What's that refer to doing?

Usually that means to divide the food equally into two. So if it called for 2 cups sugar, divided, you would need two one cup measurements fo sugar seperately.

If let's say it's 1 1/2 cups of water divided, that means that that is the total amount of water you need. Somewhere in the recipe it may call for 1 cup and then further along the other 1/2 cup.

It means that you will only use part of an ingredient in a recipe first and then the rest of it later on. Its just so they don t have to put the same ingredient on the recipe twice

split in to 2

Cut in half
