What could i cook for someone who has just had a bad cold nutritionally speaking ?!

Chicken Noodle Soup

Serves: 12

Ingredients:

1 gallon water
1 (4 pound) whole chicken, cut into pieces
1 large onion, peeled and halved
3 bay leaves
10 whole black peppercorns
2/3 bunch celery, leaves reserved
1 pound carrots
3 tablespoons chopped lemon grass (optional)

1/4 cup chicken soup base
1 pound carrots, peeled and sliced
1/3 bunch celery, chopped and leaves reserved
1 (8 ounce) package dry egg noodles


Directions:

Place chicken and water In a large pot over High heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer, skimming fat as needed, 30 minutes. Place whole, peeled onion, bay leaves, peppercorns, whole celery, whole carrots and lemon grass in the pot and simmer, covered 1 hour. Strain broth and reserve chicken. When chicken is cool enough to handle, remove skin and cut meat into bite-size pieces. Return strained stock to pot over high heat, and stir in chicken base, chopped celery and chopped carrots. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer 20 minutes, or until carrots are tender. Chop celery leaves and stir into pot with the noodles. Simmer until noodles are cooked, about 10 minutes more. Stir in chicken and heat through.

Cook or buy Italian Wedding Soup...it has spinach, noodles, and little meatballs(this way its still filling), this is a great meal and one that my mom always made when i didn't feel good...Progresso sells it and its very good.

If you can introduce leafy green veg into the meal that would be high in vitamins and minerals such as Vit-c, E, B12 ans iron.
All veg is great especially slow releasing carbs like sweet potatoes, beans, lentils as it will give the ill party a long lasting boost compared to short bursts from potatoes and carrots although carrots are great vit-a carriers.

Chicken is also great for proteins but remove the skins as that holds the majority of the fat.

Fruits like kiwi and oranges for vit -c
cranberries for a kidney flush detox.
pomegranette same as above.

I would suggest a combination of the following:
Pasta (carbs)
Chicken (protein)
Red Pepper (vitamin c)

You could add a little sauce of some kind, or some stock and turn it into soup. Otherwise, provide with a large glass of water. You need plenty of fluids to flush out your system.

Red pepper is actually one of the best sources of vitamin c - 1/4 of a pepper gives 100% RDA.

any time our children were sickly my wife always gave them home made chicken noodle soup with crusty bread. It always worked.

This is easy to make and tastes great!

Potato Soup

32 oz bag southern style hash browns

2 cans chicken broth

1 onion

1 can cream of chicken soup

1 can cream of celery soup

1 cup milk

Parsley to taste

Celery salt to taste

Add onions, hash browns and chicken broth
Simmer until hash browns are tender and onion is cooked. Approx 15 minutes.
Add milk, soups. Bring back to boil and simmer for 30 minutes stirring often so not to stick.
Season with parsley and celery salt to taste.
Serve with Mild cheddar cheese,
bacon bits or ham pieces
his tastes great and is easy to make.

Something with very little fat but lots of starches and sugars.
Basically foods that'll be light onthe stomach but will give lots of energy.

be different from the rest and give them cream of veg home made of course... folowed by a couple of hot toddies followed by a lovinly big hug............................ cant remember do you feed a cold and starve a flu or is it the other way around??????
