Stupid question, how long and at what degree do you bake a baked potato?!

I usually bake my potato so it has golden crispy skins but soft in the inside.
Make sure you wash your potatoes well, use an average fork and stab the poato so it had holes in it to breathe (allows th steam from the potato to escape during the cooking process).
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
**To get mine to have a crispy outside I dip in a bowl of olive oil and then put kosher or sea salt on the outside of the potato before putting into the oven.
Cooking time will vary from 1 hour depending on the size of your potatoes. (signs that they are done are skins are puffed up, the potato should squish easily and be very soft inside.Enjoy!!

I set on 400 for anywhere bw 30mins to an hour depending on size and how I am baking. Like wrapped in foil takes longer than spiked on this cast iron thing that I have (dont know what its called, but it has 4 spikes that you set the potatoe on, un wrapped. Since the iron spike is in the potatoe, it cooks from inside out, rather than outside in, and doesnt take as long)
Start checking your potatoe at 30 mins and then every 10 til you get your desired doneness. After a couple times you will know how long to cook for your desires.
You can also cook it in the microwave, high power for 4 minutes, turn it over then another 4 minutes - make sure you poke the skin with a fork before you start - then check the firmness, and cook in 2-minute increments until done.
Grease or butter the skin of your potato and rub with salt, than bake at 350 degrees F. for 1 hour unwrapped if you want a crispy skin, wrapped in foil if you don't. You can cut your cooking time in half if you cook in the microwave for 4 minutes first. Make sure you prick the potato with a fork before baking to allow steam to escape and prevent it from exploding. Yes, you can over cook your potato in which case it will be dry instead of moist and fluffy inside.
No...you can't overcook a baked potato as easily as you can UNDERcook it.
I always bake mine at 400 for one hour. It comes out really smushy. I rub oil on the outside of it before baking, and it comes out crispy on the outside.
You CAN overcook it in the micro...it gets dry and tough. I go for 5 minutes on high for the micro.
400 for one hour... for a true baked potato. Wrap in foil. If you microwave it, you are not baking it... you are steaming it. It will be be good but will have a different texture and slightly different taste. Best to bake it.
It all depends on how many potatoes you are baking at one time, the size of the potato, or what else you have in the oven at the time you are baking the potato.
If you are baking one potato by itself, set the oven to 350 F. Place the potato (which you have poked with a fork a few times) in the center of the rack - naked or wrapped in aluminum foil. Bake until a knife or fork inserts into the potato without resistence. This is about 20-30 minutes for a large potato. The more you have in the oven at one time, the longer it will take to cook. If you are baking multiple potatoes at one time, space them at even distances so the heat circulates evenly through out the oven.
You can tell if the potato is overcooked if the skin has started to wrinkle and the potato has shriveled up into a hard, dry lump. Not much chance of saving it once it reaches this point.

Do not add foil or any oil.It will make the outside mushy
Make sure to wash the potatoes well and poke a few holes in it so the steam can get out.
