I need something new to make for my Thanksgiving Day meal.?!
Answers: I know a lot of web sites, I want some tried and true recipes. My kids (now grown) want new pies and sides. I will be making a turkey and a spicy ham.
Something my grandmother makes every Thanksgiving that I've never seen anywhere else is Oyster casserole... I know it may not sound good, but I have to say it's the main reason I go to the family holiday. She showed me once how to make it and it was very simple. she bought a jar of oysters, a box of saltine crackers, and milk... you crumble the saltine crackers and layer at the the bottom of a casserole dish, place the oysters over top and repeat in as many layers that your dish can allow. Lastly, you gently pour the milk over the whole dish and let the crackers soak it all in. Bake it in the oven until it looks golden brown, and serve to enjoy!!!!
We like Sweet potato casserole with crumbly pecan topping
Scalloped potato casserole
Raspberry/banana jello salad
This year I am thinking of doing a medley of roasted root vegetables and maybe a butternut squash soup as an appetizer.
If you would like any of these recipes just ask
I have always gotten major compliments for my deviled eggs. What I add to taste are:
Mayo, miracle whip, yellow mustard, raw onion (put the onion in blender with a little water, then drain water out), and crisp bacon. Paprika on top with a slice of green or black olive.
Turkey in large pan 1 large bottle of <white> Zinfandel wine>Olive oil> mushrooms>onions>Garlic>Sliced orange> Cover spices of your choice>Cover cook at 450 till you smell it then to 375 till the temp pops then let set for 1/2 hour>
Moist and lots of gravy>Thicken with cold water & bisguick or flour>They will love it>
This is a family favorite side dish that we can't seem to live without. It goes so well with the crescent rolls.

This is very Christmas-y...
Frozen Cherry Salad
1 pkg ( 8 oz) cream cheese, softened
1 carton ( 8 oz) Cool Whip
1 can cherry pie filling
2 cans ( 11 oz each) mandarin oranges, drained
Maraschino cherries and orange wedges for garnish
Combine cream cheese and whipped topping. Stir in pie filling. Set aside 1/4 oranges for garnish. Fold remaining oranges into cream cheese mixture.
Transfer to a loaf pan. Cover and freeze overnight. Remove from freezer 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with reserved oranges and maraschino cherries.
This makes a pretty Christmas treat, but we enjoy it throughout the year too.
