What's is your favourite thing to mix with Mashed Potatoes?!

Question: I am making a romantic dinner for my husband on Sunday night. He loves mashed potatoes... but it's always the same thing: butter, salt & pepper, and sour cream... what are some other things I can add to mashed potatoes to make them more unique?

When i am mashing the potatoes in stead of using milk and butter I add a can of Italian seasoned chicken broth (and butter if you like). Whip them until they are the consistency you want. It adds a ton of flavor and not a lot of fat. They are always a hit at thanksgiving!

tons of cheese
garlic

Garlic.... or try some bruschetta.... an Itialian salsa.. or some cheddar cheese.. or some bacon, or some sauted onions.. or some green onions.. or some crushed red pepper,...or use redskins and leave the skin on.... or some of whatever you and he enjoy together.

I like to use whipping cream sometimes while mahsing. I also add cheese often with fried bacon or bacon bits. Green onions or chives. Peppers. Basically, anything you wanted to add. I have seen a variety of all veggies in them. A lot of resturaunts use diced garlic

mince up some garlic and add that. Also cheese is good. maybe some bacon too!! Yum.

For a difference, I like to put in some finely chopped seasoning, paprika powder and julienned green peppers. It tastes yummy!

Personally, I prefer my mashed potatoes plain. Certainly without sour cream! Some people add rosemary, garlic, or even chicken stock in theirs.

for people who loves mashed potatoes i like to serve them mashed sweet potatoes with a bit of the cooking water wtih milk, butter and some diced onions that were cooked with the potatoes....all mashed together and its pretty nice...

One of my favorites is White cheddar and chives.
Also good is roasted garlic puree with the cheddar and chives. Good luck!

chives, cheese, garlic.

you could add a packet of dry ranch dressing mix in with the milk

cheese and bacon

pimentos

Try a little cream cheese instead of sour cream, I like to add fresh crumbled bacon, butter, chives, or fresh bulk sausage browned to them, with cheese of your choice and some durkee fried onions are smashing too!

I put cheddar cheese, green onions, sour cream, and bacon in my mashed potatoes. It's just like a loaded baked potato without the skin.

i think that one of my favorite ways it to make them like this: start with 8 large potatoes. overcook/boil the potatoes slightly (so that they are almost bursting out of the skin). then peel the potatoes. put them back into the hot pot as you peel them. add a small carton of heavy cream. add 1/4 stick of butter (non-salted). take a potato masher and really go at them. if you need more moisture, add milk. then take about half a cup of fresh herbed goat cheese and crumble it on top. also take 1/2 freshly chopped parsely (fine) and put it on top. fold it in with a spoon.

add fresh sea salt and pepper to taste.

Roast some garlic and add that, or how about caramelizing some onions. Horseradish is pretty good too.

I agree with the previous post that said caramelized onions. Caramelize them with a good amount of butter. Mash your potatoes with half and half, some freshly grated Parmesan, and plenty of black pepper. Fold in the caramelized onions. Oh my god, sooooooooo good.

try multigrain mustard it is only mild and the taste is nice.

Ranch dressing (dry) and butter

bacon,cheese,chives,and sour cream

put cooked and seasoned (salt&pepper) sweet peas in a blender and mix them with the mashed potatoes and blend them together until they are thick and the peas are like the potatoes, mashed.

I like mine with a little kick, so i'll add some fresh horseradish or prepared horseradish if i don't have fresh.
