Tiramisu is simply coffee-flavored lady's fingers saturated with coffee liquer. If you are Islamic I would skip the liquer, it tastes nearly as good without it.

If you are devout Islam, you will probably want to know that most tiramisu recipes, call for some booze in the mix. Typically lady-fingers, mascarpone, cocoa power, cream, and so forth, with some brandy. Good Tiramisu is definitely not lo-cal.

It has a coffee taste, very good

TIRAMISU

1 c. sugar
1/2 c. Marsala wine
6 egg yolks
2 lbs. mascarpone cheese (2 lbs. cream cheese combined with 1 c. whipped cream)

Whisk sugar, wine and egg yolks in a bowl over boiling water to 190 degrees on a candy thermometer (about 5-6 minutes). Remove from heat and cool slightly and then whisk in mascarpone.

1 c. boiling water
6 tsp. instant coffee
1/2 c. Kahlua
36 whole lady fingers
Grated white chocolate

Combine water with coffee and Kahlua. Put lady fingers (single layer) around bowl bottom and sides. Drizzle with half Kahlua mixture. Pour half mascarpone mix in bowl. Cover with lady fingers and drizzle with Kahlua mixture. Pour remaining mascarpone in bowl. Sprinkle with grated white chocolate. Chill at least 8 hours.

It can taste like alot of different things. Most tiramisu have chocolate in them but that is not a traditional Italian tiramisu. It should have strong coffee or espresso, Mascapone cheese(which is similar to cream cheese), Brandy or other liqueur, and lady fingers. Tiramisu means "pick me up" in Italian cuz off the espresso and booze. It is Delicious. Log on to Food Network and I'm sure there will be a recipe there.

The base for a true tiramisu is ladyfingers, which are little sponge cakes heavily soaked in Sambuca, a sweet liquor. This is layered with strong coffee, sweet marscapone cheese and sugar.

Looking at your screen name, if you are a Muslim that shuns anything with alcohol, you would not be able to eat Tiramisu. Oh sure, there are versions made without the alcohol, but then it's not really tiramisu. The Sambuca really is an important ingredient. And since it is a cold prepared dessert, there is no burning off of the alcohol.

I agree with tracey a ~ the recipe contain alcohol.

It has a coffee flavor. As for a recipe check out foodnetwork.com for a simple one.

Salaam Alaykum,

I better check first...sometimes it is lady finger cookies soaked in espresso with Marscopone cheese....but sometimes people use a liqueur in the recipe like anise and it has alcohol in it so be sure to ask or if they did it might be brandy... just in case then it is haram..but it is not necessary to use it so check first and if you get a recipe that doesn't use the liqueur in it. Wa salaam
