Oatmeal cookies??????!


Question: if a recipe calls for baking soda but not baking powder ...but i want to put baking powder in it ...will it mess up the recipe or be fine????...also it doesnt call for vanilla but i also want to add that to...just cos i find it weird that this recipe doesnt have those 2 ingredients in it....will it be ok or will the cookies turn out horrible???

Adding baking pwder to a recipe shouln't mess it up but you can't subsittue baking soda with baking powder because theyr serve two distinct funtion.
Adding vanilla to anything will just make it better!

I don't know much about cooking but I do know this, vanilla is kind of strong so don't over-do it. Also you can substitute vanilla with almond extract which is a little better i think, but its also strong.

As for the baking soda / baking powder thing, I'm not a cook so I don't know. You might want to rephrase your question asking something like "What's the difference between baking soda and baking powder?"

I think it will be just okay, although baking soda and baking powder have different characteristic. baking powder is baking soda mixed with acidifying agent plus drying agent.

No, baking powder isn't a substitute for baking soda.

Baking soda is four times as strong as baking powder — so if your recipe calls for 1 teaspoon of baking soda, you would need four teaspoons of baking powder to produce the same amount of lift. Unfortunately, though, it’s not that simple.

Baking powder is made of baking soda and the right amount of acid to react with the soda (it also includes corn starch to keep the ingredients from prematurely reacting in the privacy of their container). So if your recipe already has acidic ingredients that were going to neutralize the necessary baking soda, you are adding other ingredients in the baking powder that may not sit well with them.

You cookies would not turn out right. I'd hold off making them until I could get to the store and buy baking soda.

Baking soda needs to be in an acidic mixture to react and make air bubbles. Baking powder contains acids that allow it to work better. So you would be fine with baking powder.

i suggest that you drop that recipe, and use mine... lolz! here it is...

650g butter
450g sugar
5 eggs
690g bread flour
1T baking soda
500ml honey
300g oats
300g raisins *optional

use the creaming method for this one, and bake it for 8mins in a pre-heated oven (180C)
