The worst cookies , what am I doing wrong?!
Answers: I have tried to make homemade cocolate chip cookies twice.both times they came out ruined. What am I doing wrong? Iam following there recipe on the bag. Is there any tips you can plese give me so they turn out like the pictures on the bag? Thanks
A common mistake is to use a margarine spread instead of full fat margarine or butter. The extra moisture in spreads can really affect the texture of cookies and cakes. I recommend real butter for baked goods.

Perhaps you could describe how your cookies are turning out. Maybe you're cooking them for too long or too little. Are you preheating the oven before putting the cookies in? Do you need to compensate for the altitude?
Make sure you don't over cook them. Also make sure you are making them all the same size. If you leave them in too long, they will get hard. They should just start to brown and be some what soft yet. Hope that helps.
Yup, I agree with Jon.
Use real butter, not I can't believe it's not butter.
The type and quantity of the other ingredients are dependent on the fat and moisture in the butter. If you change that, you change the cookie.
Also try to buy unsalted butter for baking.
Don't use I can't believe It's not butter. Use unsalted butter. Make sure all of your ingredients are at room temp. Unless you use the exact utensil they use to scoop the dough they will not look exactly like those pictured on the bag. They should taste and look a lot better.
give more detail. like are they burnt or etc
You can use 'I can't believe it's not butter', the stick type. I made my own recipe for Chocolate Chippers and they are a hit with the guys I work with and my husband. I use 1 stick of real butter and 1 stick of 'I can't believe it's not butter'. I actually don't like 'all' real butter and like the flavor of the combination. Are your cookies runny and looking 'thin'? If so add another 1/2 cup of flour to your recipe. Not enough flour will make cookies 'spread'. Also, are you using baking powder or soda? I use both in my recipe but if you are going to use just one, opt for soda over powder.
Also, your cookie sheet will make a difference in 'how' your cookies bake. I use the 'air bake' cookie sheets. Air bake cookie sheets keep your cookies from burning on the bottom.
If you are using Nestles cookie recipe, their recipe really tends to make a thinner cookie.
Here's my recipe if you are interested.
1 Cup Butter ( I use 1 stick margarine and 1 stick of butter)
1 Cup Brown sugar (packed)
1/2 Cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
3 Cups of flour
Mix above and then add:
2 cups of chocolate chips
1cup of nuts (optional)
Bake at 375 for 12-14 minutes.
Hope this helps!
