Bad experiences with cookie mix gift?!

Question: A friend of mine gave me a bag with a cookie mix in it for a gift. She spent a lot of money on it. Well I tried to make them today and they were AWFUL!!!! They tasted like some one added too much salt or left something major out. They looked o kay but the taste was so bad that I threw them out. She had sent for this mix from some kind of fancy catalog. Should I tell her that it was BAD? SHe probably can't get her money back and her feelings might be hurt. What do you think?

Wow~ you guys have strange things over there! Cookie mix as a gift? Hmmm!?

Jordan once made me a xmas present at school of biscuts and proceeded to come home and hide it under his bed for the next two weeks~ the result on xmas day was a soggy decaying mass covered in ants~ try pretending you ound a good one and it was beautiful!

Well i would do as i do with any gift that is a bit left of center~ and thank her sayin~ Thanks so much for your gift... it was a beautiful thought and i really enjoyed making them!

Given that it smelled strange it might have been expired or contaminated. You could tell her you greatly appreciated the gift (as evidenced by your using it), but let her know in case she would like to order from a different company in the future.

I would thank her whole-heartedly for the gift. Period

If she is really your friend than I would tell her so she doesnt order from that catalog again, you wouldnt want her to do it for another person and get embarassed again, not to mention if it was really expensive, so she doesnt waste her money again. Just tell her nicely that you appreciated the gift and that the company must have messed up the mix because they just didn't turn out right.

If it's a reputable company, I'm inclined to think it was a specific bad batch. If you still have the bag, call the company directly and complain. They may need you to give them a batch number off the bag, or a serial number. If they send you a new one, and it's equally terrible, THEN tell your friend.

I wouldnt tell her especially if she ordered it from some fancy catalog. Only way id tell her was if she was like your best friend otherwise, just forget about it. Next time check exp. dates before using anything

I would thank her immensely for the gift and let her know that the mix was bad. I have gotten them myself and they are usually great, especially the new organic and healthy mixes. You may have gotten a bag of bad mix and she may be able to get her money back or an exchange for a fresh bag of mix. I would definitely let her know so she can let the company know as well since there have been numerous case in the States of salmonella poisoning and such. This way they can make good to the customer and she can get you a fresh mix. They are really good - I've gotten them myself - so there may have been a storage problem or something. Just let her know because if she comes by and wants to know how they were or wants to try one you will be tongue tied to answer. Honesty is always best.

I would contact the company directly if you know who she bought it from. If that doesn't work, you could nicely tell her that you love her gifts, but there was something wrong with this one. Tell her you don't want her to feel bad, but you also wanted to let her know so she can check with others who received the gift and see if she wants to use this company again.
