What to add that is healthy to sweeten the taste of oatmeal?!
Answers: Ok, I love Oatmeal in the morning, it is warm and keeps me filled up for a while, but I also LOVE putting either brown sugar or maple syrup in it, which obviously seriously drags down the healthiness of it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to better the taste of oatmeal, healthily?
It really is hard to argue against brown sugar and oatmeal-it's one of my favorites, too. But I also like to cut up a small apple and toss it in when the oatmeal is cooking. It comes out just the right texture and tastes so good!
You can add some soya milk.
how about:
1. berries
2. yoghurt (any flavor you like)
3. banana
just use sugar. or sweet and low
I love love love Honey and Milk and it's just sweet enough
raisins, berries, cinnamon, bananas, walnuts, fruit flavored yogurt
i always put some honey and blueberries in my oatmeal if i dont have any bananans and nuts. oatmeal is kinda limitless really, you can do almost anything with it. so just get creative and keep tossing different things in. ^_^
Using natural sugars is a healthy way to sweeten it. If you add other things like apple sauces, canned peaches etc., then your getting waaaaayyyy more sugar then you need. Fresh fruits alone aren't going to give you the sweetness of brown sugar or maple syrup. People argue against artificial sweeteners, but maybe splenda would do the trick.
I myself are like you, brown sugar and a little milk is good for me.
go and mash up some bananas, then mix it with milk and add a dash of honey... then mix it together with your cooked oatmeal... this as much i promise you, it would taste a whole lot better! and it healthier to! =p
I like to add cinnamon to my oatmeal, and a tiny bit of honey. The cinnamon adds a natural sweetness to your breakfast, and the honey (though basically just sugar) has SOME vitamins in it..so its slightly better for you than sugar. If you want to have something REALLY "sweet", yet don't want the calories (and blood sugar spikes) of using lots of sugar..try using Splenda. You could also add some fresh fruit and/or raisens, too. You'll get the sweetness you're looking for, and some added fiber/vitamins as well.
Maple syrup, pure maple syrup is actually very good for you.
Honey, and raisins.
I love cut up dates in mine. no other sweetner needed
honey..and fresh fruits will be great..
chopped apples with yogurt and cinnamon
apple juice or honey, or just calorie free sweetner
I like to put raisins in to cook with the oatmeal, add a little salt, some cinnamon, and just enough brown sugar to make it slightly sweet. Sometimes I use a 50/50 mix of corn syrup and molasses- a spoonfull in the bowl is enough.
try raisins or bananas
