Is something wrong with my oven?!

Question: Okay I can't cook for anything anyway but everytime I bake anything it burns in like 2 minutes (say the baking time is 10 min) and I cook it at the right temp, what's wrong?

It is hard to tell what is wrong - a wild guess is that the thermostat in your oven is either wrong or stuck all the way on. Another solution would be to buy a cheap oven thermometer - a couple of bucks at your hardware store or cooking outlet and put it in your oven. Then set your oven to 200 degrees and after 5-10 minutes, check to see what the thermometer says (careful, it is hot). Write down both your setting and the thermometer reading. If it says 200 degrees then try 300 and then 400 and write those down. If the thermometer says the same thing as the setting, then something else is going on beyond what you have told us.

But if the oven registers 50 (or a100 or 150...) degrees too high, then you should probably set the dial 50 (or 100 or 150...) degrees lower. Leave the thermometer in the oven and use it to tell you what the real temperature is.

By the way, our oven reads 50 degrees higher than it really is so we crank it up another 50 degrees to compensate for the difference and check the thermometer to make sure.

Good luck.

there could be something wrong with your oven but here is an idea if the recipe calls for 10 min set your timer for five if still not done set it for 2 minute intervals

Your oven could be higher temperature. My friend's oven is and we always set it on a lower temperature because it is 50 degrees higher. Try doing that if it does not work call Sears or something :)

Be sure the oven is set on 'Bake' and not 'Broil". Get an oven thermometer and see how hot it actually gets.

You can buy inexpensive oven thermometers in kitchen stores (possibly even in supermarkets). I recommend getting one and seeing if your oven temperature is matching what the oven is set to.

Different ovens cook differently. Try using a lower temperature and a little less time. Say if the recipe says to bake at 375 bake at 325 or 350. And if the time says 10 minutes bake for 5-7 checking regulary at 2-3 minute intervals.
