Baking Potatoes?!
Answers: I have russett potatoes, the recipe I am using to make Twice Baked Potaotes, says put them in the over for an hour, I didnt realzie that and I do not have alot of time. How can I cook these potatoes so I can make twice baked potatoes without putting them in the over for 1 hour? Microwave? I have zip and steam bags, will those work?
Nuking isn't the answer. They just are NOT baked.. they are steamed. But... nuke them, 3 at a time, for about 4 minutes. Then do the same for the other 3.Then put all of them in the oven at 450 deg. F. until tender.. about 15 minutes. That'll crisp up the skins, although russett potatoes wouldn't be my choice for baked potatoes. You want a nice firm skin. I prefer not cutting them in half, but just skimming a piece off the top, scooping out, mashing with seasoning, and put back in the skin. Don't forget... you then have to bake that for about 15 mins. Sprinkle the top with a little (good) grated parmesan cheese.
A little advice when doing twice baked for company. Make them hours in advance, and put in the fridge if necessary. Then about a half hour before ready to serve, put them in a 350 deg. oven until heated through. This way you aren't rushing around to get the potatoes done with other things to prepare.
nuke em
I have never used those zip and steam bags so I do not know the result but I always microwave my potatoes. Depending on the size, it usually takes about 5-10 minutes to cook a potato. Just take a knife and stab holes around so it can let steam in and out. Once your potato is done, you can scoop out the flesh and make your twice baked potatoes.
do them in the microwave
wash them really well then stab them in several places
cook on high for about 8 minutes check them to see if done (push a fork in) - if not add 2 minutes.
It takes a lot of time to make twice baked potatoes.
You can microwave the potatoes but it won't be that great. It's better than nothing though.
If you have time to run to the store, you can buy frozen twice baked potatoes.
Sure, you can microwave them. But... the oven bakes while a microwave steams. So the potato will not be as good as when baked in an oven, especially twice baked. But.. they will still be okay.
you can try it but if you have more than 6 potatoes in the microwave it would take just as long in the oven!!
Don't use the zip and steam bags, but do poke holes and microwave until they are about done. When you twice bake them definetly put them in the oven to crisp
if you don't bake them in the oven for the full hour, the skin will not get crispy, which will make it VERY hard to scoop out the insides to make them into twice baked potatoes. It's worth the time and effort to do them right.
PUT THEM IN THE MICROWAVE FOR 20 MIN. THEN IN A 500 DEGREE OVEN FOR 5 MINUTES... TAKE THEM OUT AND FINISH THEM!!! THEY COME OUT AWESOME WITH A CRISPY SHELL!!!
