Weights and measures?!

Question: My cooking is not the best!!!! I'm cooking rice in a microwave and it says:- 1 cup rice and 1 1/2 cups of water
I don't physically have a cup so I asked my father and he said that a cup is a bit less than a mug!!!! A great help especially as my mugs come in 3 different sizes - Can anyone help? (im in England, I understand we have different measures)

Basically just keep the ratio of rice is to water in your mind...the mug or cup size vareis according to the space available i the oven.So just follow the ratio
All the best

Rice is a ratio thing. Use a coffee mug ify ou want to. 1 mug of rice and 1? mugs of water. It will work.

What you really have is a ratio. So take a container and use it for the rice, then add 1 1/2 that amount of water. If you get the water wrong by a little it won't matter that much.

There are 8 ounces in a cup. If your mugs are small, most of the time the smallest mug is 6 ounces. But if you measure the rice in the same mug as the water, Just put one of the mugs of rice to 1 1/2 mugs of the water. It will work fine. No matter what size the mug is it will work.

1/2 of 16 oz paper coffee cup is a cup
