I had this problem as a kid. I never ate my sandwich because the mayo or mustard always made the bread soggy by the time lunch rolled around. My mom started putting the mustard between the meat/cheese instead of directly on the bread. If that doesn't work, try pinwheels, tortilla roll-ups with meats, cheeses, vegies, etc. They're fun to eat and simple to make. Lunchables as some have suggested have a high sodium count and aren't exactly as healthy as one would think.
tell him to make his own lunch if he doesn't like it..or buy him lunchables
Sausage rolls are good and there filling ... or how about dairylea dunkers ... the cheese dips with bread sticks ... kids love them !
ask him if he rather have the lunch there at school
after first grade i started getting school lunch
they even have programs so he can get free school lunch
just talk to him about it
My mother used to package everything seperately and then we would make our own sandwiches. Bread... then in a plastic bad she would put the cheese, another bag the ham, then tomato, etc, and lettuce ... it keeps things fresh and doesn't go soggy. It works wonders :)
If he can take a thermos to lunch it is a great way for him to have soups or spaghetti-o's or anything hot that he likes and put in some crackers or chips and fruit. Or lunchables from the grocery.
tortilla wrap instead of plain bread
california egg roll (you can buy nice ones from Waitrose)
crackers and cheese
noodles and chicken
Trying getting a cool bag and put a freezing element in with the lunch box. Sometimes meat/cheese filling gets warm and a bit sweaty if the bag is kept near a radiator during the day. But I also find that being strict about eating school lunch works too. No treats if the sandwich isn't eaten.
Try lunchables. there are a lot of different kinds and they are good.
just keep in mind you could make home made lunchables.
get a separated covered container. add crackers, meat slices(use any, cut to cracker size) and cheese slices.
sandwich wraps-Keep dressing separate.
Ice pack and using a box for sandwich helps. Keep things like mayo or mustard on the side. I save the extra condiments I get from take out or buy those round twist close containers to bring them in. You could get packets from restaurant supply stores.
put them in a nice tub with tin foil in it!(or force him otherwise you'll do something horrid)
My DIL does this for my gransons, and they request different kinds all the time.
If he has a problem with the bread not tasting fresh after packed in a bag with the meat, put the bread cubes in a baggie to eat with the stick of sandwich fillings. Large cut croutons are another great idea sent with a cup of chicken, tuna, or egg salad.
Sandwich on a stick
INGREDIENTS:
bread
cheese
lunch meat
grape tomatoes
lettuce
pickles
olive
Cut up cubes of bread, (buy loves of bread in the deli section that aren't sliced and cut into cubes) cheese, and lunch meat (we ordered 1/2-inch-thick slices of ham and turkey at the deli counter).
Slide the cubes onto a skewer with other foods your child likes, such as a grape tomato, a piece of lettuce, a pickle, or an olive.
Set out a side of mayo or mustard for dippin.
Do you put it in a ziploc baggie so it don't dry out?
Just leave the sandwich out and give him some sliced cheese and crackers in separate baggies.
When I was a kid my mom packed my lunch and a couple times the bread had gotten moldy, I ate it anyway or I would have gone hungry.
why dont you ask him what he would like. or pack everything seperate and he can make his own and dont forget to include fruit. how about a hard boiled egg a lump of cheese and crackers.bread sticks and dips.smoothy drinks you could make them yourself only takes about 5 mins.if he likes soup put some in a flask you can put anything in these wide mouthed flasks.i tell you its not easy thinking of this when your asked.it all depends on what he likes to eat.
My daughter's favourite lunch is always humous dip with bread sticks, carrot sticks and raw peppers. I just put the humous in a small container and the veg in a plastic bag with the breadsticks in another bag. Always works.
try left overs sandwiches like meat loaf, spaghetti, mac and cheese or even a blt but make it with a sandwich toaster machine that way it seals in the food, very handy, great with kids, like a hot pocket.
my kids like to have a cold pasta salad. There are so many things you can add to the pasta so they dont get bored of it.
maybe you could try a " build yourself" lettuce wrap. Keep his fave sanwhich fixing in seperate bags. Some can be froozen ahead of time. Frozen juice drinks will help keep things cold. And have him help put the lunch kits together. The packets of condiments is a good idea but don't forget some times it's cheaper to prepack them yourself. And try going past the mustard/mayo route there's a ton of things to try as condiments. Good luck.
why don`t you wrap everything seperate, the fillings the bread then not only the lunch will be fresh but he will think he`s grown up making his own sandwiches
