Can you freeze cream cheese?!

Question: Yes, but not if you're going to use it for spreading

Answers: Yes, but not if you're going to use it for spreading

no, the texture changes

Yes, we do it all the time.

yes you can!! I have always frozen my cream cheese if I have bought too many and will not use it before the expiration date and it works just as good. You just have to thaw it out really well and drain the water from the package but it can be frozen.

you can freeze anything, when it thaws out there is no guarantee it will be the same consistency though

Ceam cheese, cottage cheese and ricotta cheese do not freeze well. They loose their smooth texture and become mealy. However, if combined with a higher fat like heavy cream, cream cheese can be frozen for later use in recipes that call for it as an ingredient or when mixing it with other things to make a spread. It seems to be better when it is wrapped really well to avoid moisture exposure in the freezer - and then brought slowly down to temperature in the refridgerator overnight.

Yes. It will change the texture as far as spreading it, but if you're going to beat it up and use it in a recipe, it will be just fine.

NO
