What kind of potatoe do you use for mashed?!

Question: I'm putting my TGiving list together and cant forget about the good ol mashed potatoe and gravy. I wanted to know if you have a preference of potatoe used for the mashed. Also, is there anything you do to your mashed potatoes to make them unique? (no instant mashed please)

High starch potatoes like russet and Yukon Gold.

I throw a few garlic gloves in with the boiling water. Then take them out and add copious amounts of fresh pepper, cream and butter and a little nutmeg

I like to use Yukon

My favorite is Idaho potatoes

None, I don't care for potatoes.

If you've never tried red potatos mashed with the skin on, you're missing something good.

Plain brown baking potato works the best. I've tried the cream cheese and the chicken broth versions. My favorite is just milk and butter.

I prefer to use the russett potatoe or the yukon gold potatoe. I hate red potatoes for anything. They have a nasty flavor. My Mom makes the best mashers and she puts salt, pepper, butter, and half/half in them. They are the best.

Personally I like Yukon Golds, they seem to have a creamier texture.

Idaho potatoes are a very good choice. I make them the traditional way adding butter, salt and pepper, Whole milk and a dash of cream and they are delicious.

I use Idaho potatoes for mashed and baked.

For roasting I use red.

I always use regular baking or brown spuds, real butter, a combo of heavy cream and milk, a little kosher salt and black pepper with a hand masher. Most of the time I just make them this way but every so often I'll add a little fresh chopped italian parsley and garlic or I'll add some colby jack cheese.. I don't really like to mess with a good thing. NEVER INSTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like Idaho! But most like russet potatoes. You can add depending on the amount a few tablespoons of olive oil with garlic powder, ground pepper, salt and chopped scallions or parsley.

Red....Red....Red! I've tried them all. Red is always a big hit. skin on or off...i perfer on. Good luck!

I like the Idaho white Potatoes Best. After my potatoes are boil and done I like to put them in the mixing bowl and smash them down with a Potato smasher before usu in the mixer to help prevent any lumps. My Dad like to use half and half cream to make them a bit more fluffy.

Hi, How are you?
Okay, my mum makes mash with Maris Piper Potatoes, and she adds a little butter and milk to make it smooth.
Mash it up with a masher thing (you know, those flat things) and serve up piping hot (cold mash is not nice!!!).
Hope I Helped!

I use whatever potatoes I happen to have. I think last time I had half red and half Idaho so thats what I made. I usually just use butter and milk in potatoes but you can use things like chicken broth and/or sour cream. If you want to try something different you should try it out for dinner some night prior to thanksgiving to make sure you like them.
