Is it necessary to cover the turkey while cooking?!
Answers: Cover the breast with foil for most of the cooking as it does cook faster than the dark meat. Take off the foil for a bit just so the outside gets a golden brown.
Yes - Or else it will dry out.
Don't forget to take the foil off the bird during the last 30 mins of cooking in order to make the skin more crispy. ;)
Don't forget to put apple slices inside the cavity of the bird to keep it moist.
Yes... but during the last 45 minutes, uncover so the skin can crisp up and turn that lovely golden brown. Rub some butter over it during the last 45 minutes.
No it is not necessary, but many people still cover the turkey in a variety of ways. They do this to shield the meat, particularly that of the breast, from direct heat.
If you have a roasting pan that is large enough, you could use the top.
Most people simply use foil. Cover one side of a piece of aluminum foil with butter and place it over the breast meat.
In the end, it is entirely up to you whether or not you want to cover your turkey. It's usually a good idea if you have not taken any other steps to prevent it from drying out. I've always covered every bird that I've cooked with foil. Dry white meat has never been a problem for me.
Not necessary, but your bird will be more succulent if you do cover it. You can uncover toward the end of cooking so its not so pale. Another way to keep the breast moist is to lift the skin over the breast and shove butter under the skin.
I always cover the turkey with foil but remove for the last 30mins or so to crisp it up. If you don't cover then the turkey can be very dry. Make sure you also have plenty of butter and fatty bacon on the breast and legs.
Alternatively buy a loin of pork it's much tastier and moist with gorgeous crackling.
Not necessary .......... some cover the legs with foil and leave the rest to cook and brown naturally. If you butter under and on top of the skin of the breast, it will be moist. I've glazed mine with a cranberry glaze so it kept moist as well. I've also laid hickory/maple flavored bacon across the breast ....... but I've done it strickly for looks ....... cuz I don't eat white meat.
